The ‘Gossip Girl’ star gets her party on with ‘Front Cut,’ a new track that just hit the Internet.

For a while there it seemed like Leighton Meester was only going to be “Country Strong,” but now she’s again embracing her dance-club music roots on a new track. On Tuesday, a new Meester tune titled “Front Cut” hit the Web.
The “Gossip Girl” star’s track, a certain club banger that could easily be confused with any song in Ke$ha’s dance-heavy discography, features the writing, production and vocal talents of Clinton Sparks.
“I’m too fly to be all up in this line, boy/ I should get a front cut/ I should get a front cut,” Meester proclaims in the opening lines of the song — which is all about getting key access to a slamming party — before some killer keyboards and heavy beats kick in. She goes on to rap/sing, “You see me coming through/ Not just me, my girlfriends too/ You know what we came to do/ That’s why we in front of you.”
Meester really displays her swagga on the song’s bridge, when she goes on to sing, “Don’t tell me I gotta wait in the line/ I said f— the front door, I should go in through the side/ Why don’t you/ Lift up that rope to let through/ All these girls in my crew / Give me a drink or a few/ I mean a bottle or two/ We’ve been out here too damn long / And I hear Clint Sparks playin’ my song/ Got my diamond and my Louboutins on/ Ya better hurry up or I’ll be gone/ Don’t tell me I gotta wait in no line/ ‘Cause there’s plenty of other clubs that want me inside.”
With no official release date for the track or any definite plans for an album release, it seems that for now Meester fans will have to just enjoy the song online. The singer/actress’ pop-star career has been long-simmering, to say the least. She was expected to drop an album in 2010, but that never happened.
In 2009, she appeared on Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad,” then she hooked up with Robin Thicke on the song “Somebody to Love.”
So what do you think of Meester’s new club banger? Share your opinions in the comments.

Miley Cyrus on “Saturday Night Live”

For fans of Miley Cyrus last night’s “Saturday Night Live” had to seem, like, “pretty cool,” as the 18-year-old former Disney Channel Star made her first ever appearance as host on the long running sketch comedy show, alongside musical guest The Strokes.
From the very beginning, Cyrus made it clear she was not above lampooning herself, self-depreciatingly telling viewers during her monologue that “Hannah Montana” was The Disney Channel’s version of “Black Swan,” before transitioning into “I’m Sorry I’m Not Perfect,” a song which managed to walk the fine line of referencing nearly every scandal of the young performer’s still burgeoning career without actually apologizing for any of them.
“There’s a photo of me dressed like a dude, and Annie Leibovitz tried to get me nude. For those of you who think that’s pretty crude, I’m sorry I’m not perfect,” Cyrus belted.
“[I] didn’t make a dirty tape, and pass it along. Didn’t text a dirty picture of [my] dong,” she continued, flanked by cast members Bobby Moynihan and Kristen Wiig. “Don’t’ both of these things seem worse than a bong? I’m sorry I’m not perfect.”
The show’s midnight centerpiece was, predictably, “The Miley Cyrus Show,” which continued SNL’s recent tradition of having the target of their hijinks appear alongside the actor lampooning them. In this case, Vanessa Bayer, whose spot-on impersonation of the giggly, hyper-loquacious Cyrus has become a show highlight, made room on her mock talk show for Cyrus herself, who in her best impression of the night played Justin Bieber.
“Did you know I smoked salvia,” Bayer as Cyrus said to her guest.
“Well there’s no reason that you wouldn’t,” Cyrus as Bieber replied, looking straight into the camera. “Because it’s totally legal, yo!”
The spot offered up further opportunity for Cyrus to be in on the joke, dancing alongside a super sycophantic caricature of her father played by Jason Sudeikis, and laughing as Bayer introduced a 3D film called “Always Say Always” to compete with Bieber’s “Never Say Never.”
But while she took turns playing Bieber, Lindsay Lohan and Fergie among others, the most daring sketch of the night might have been the one where Cyrus played herself, in a bite the hand that fed you skit called “Disney Channel Acting School.”
Alongside Kenan Thompson as Raven Symone, Cyrus offered tips for kids looking to break into the big time with a show on the young adult channel including, “On the Disney Channel, every person has to be the loudest person in the room,” and, “In the Disney Channel world, any child is smarter than every adult.” Cyrus also showed off some classic moves like “Reacting to Stinky Feet” and “Spying in a Doorway.”
What did you think of Cyrus’s performance on Saturday Night Live? Which skit was the funniest? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Ke$ha has made a name for herself as a party girl who makes party songs. But maybe you find the choice tracks on her debut, Animal, and the follow-up, Cannibal, not quite up to snuff for your dance-floor needs. And maybe that’s why the singer has decided to release her first ever remix album, I Am the Dance Commander + I Command You to Dance: The Remix Album, on March 22.
For the album, Ke$ha hooked up with a number of dance DJs and producers, as well as a few notable guests. The track listing includes: “Blow” (Cirkut Remix), “The Sleazy Remix” (which includes an appearance by Andre 3000), “Tik Tok Untold Remix,” “F— Him He’s a DJ” (live version), “Animal Switch Remix,” “Your Love Is My Drug” Dave Audé club remix, “We R Who We R” Fred Falke club remix, “Take It Off” Billboard remix, “Tik Tok” Chuck Buckett’s Veruca Salt remix and her track with 3OH!3, “Blah Blah Blah” DJ Skeet Skeet radio remix.
In addition to the new music, Ke$ha is also set to release the music video for her latest single, “Blow.” She tweeted about filming it in late January. On Tuesday, the singer shared that she saw some footage from the video, writing, “Just saw the final cut of my new video for BLOW all I can say is HOT DAMN.”
Currently, Ke$ha is on the road for her Get $leazy Tour, which she kicked off last week in Portland, Oregon. She’s set to wrap up her tour in Las Vegas on May 7.

Unicorn cameos in ‘Born This Way’ and ‘Blow’ videos is ‘just weird coincidence,’ Chris Marrs Piliero tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

The brand-new videos for Ke$ha’s “Blow” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” couldn’t be more different. But fans on the Web have been comparing the clips, thanks to a special cameo the two videos have in common. With unicorns appearing in both “Blow” and “BTW,” some Gaga fans are accusing the K-Dollar of stealing from their Mother Monster.
But MTV News spoke to “Blow” director Chris Marrs Piliero, who explained that it’s pure coincidence his video and the Nick Knight-directed video both feature unicorns.
“It’s very odd. It’s one of those weird things, and I think a lot of people on the Internet don’t grasp the sense of time [that goes into making videos]. Some Gaga fans, they don’t realize that just because it was announced there might be a unicorn [in Gaga's video], it’s like, we didn’t film the video after that announcement,” he said.
“It’s like [the movies] ‘Dante’s Peak’ and ‘Volcano’ and then there was ‘Armageddon’ and ‘Deep Impact.’ I don’t know, I know when things like that happen when I was a part of the audience, I was like, ‘That’s weird and fishy,’ but now being on the other side, it’s just weird coincidences,” he explained. “What are the odds of that?”
In fact, Piliero had a gut feeling that he should use unicorns many, many moons ago and he thought Ke$ha was the right artist to join with the mythological creatures onscreen.
“Ke$ha was looking to make kind of something different, a video that was cool and random, and I had this idea running in my head with just the idea of unicorns,” he recalled. “If I massacred unicorns, they could bleed rainbows. I’m a fan of violence and I’m always trying to find a way to make it OK.”
The rainbow-spewing unicorns weren’t the only cameo that Piliero hoped to nab. He also wanted “Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek to appear in the clip. “He’s such an awesome guy. He was down for it,” he said. “He had seen the Black Keys video [I shot] and he was stoked on the idea. It was so much fun. He and Ke$ha kind of went for all the craziness. I think he has a fantastic comic side. He’s good at being naturally funny. It’s about the delivery.”
Ke$ha, of course, was onboard for all the zaniness. “Before we started filming, we had quite a few talks. She was adamant you can’t back away from the crazy; everything about the idea she loved and she enforced the fact that she wanted to embrace every aspect of it and really go for it,” he recalled. “On set, she was having fun. She was like, ‘I want to lick a unicorn.’ It was rad working with her because there definitely wasn’t a sense of her feeling awkward about stuff or detached; no ego. It felt like we had worked together before.”

On the East Coast, revenue streams are slowly rising as banks are still cratering and trying to recover from the recession. But out West, money ain’t a thing, as Jermaine Dupri and Jay-Z once rapped.
Forbes has released their list of Hollywood’s 20 Highest Earners of 2010, with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus among those rubbing elbows with the likes of power players like Oprah Winfrey.
The venerable talk-show host topped the list with a whopping $315 million haul. Winfrey’s earnings were generated for the most part by her multimedia deals, which include a syndication deal for her TV show, a magazine and her soon-to-be-launched network.
“Avatar” creator James Cameron came in second, more than $100 million behind Winfrey, with a tally of $210 million. Director and playwright Tyler Perry ($125 million), blockbuster movie producer Michael Bay ($120 million) and golfer Tiger Woods ($105 million) rounded out the top five.
Beyoncé was the only pop star to break the top 10. The “Single Ladies” superstar landed at #9, sandwiched between George Lucas and Dr. Phil. Mrs. Carter, whose hubby, Jay-Z, was named Hip-Hop’s Cash King by Forbes in August with a tally of $63 million, pulled down $87 million over the past 12 months.
The blond-haired trio of Britney Spears ($64 million), Lady Gaga ($62 million) and Madonna ($58 million) made their mark on the list at numbers 13, 14 and 15, respectively.
Pop tarts Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift capped the list. The young stars placed at 18 and 19 on the list, with Disney star Cyrus pocketing $48 million, and country singer Swift depositing $45 million into her bank account.
Hollywood’s 20 highest-earning men and women of 2010, according to Forbes:
1. Oprah Winfrey, $315 million
2. James Cameron, $210 million
3. Tyler Perry, $125 million
4. Michael Bay, $120 million
5. Tiger Woods, $105 million
6. Jerry Bruckheimer, $100 million
7. Steven Spielberg, $100 million
8. George Lucas, $95 million
9. Beyoncé, $87 million
10. Dr. Phil, $80 million
11. Simon Cowell, $80 million
12. Jerry Seinfeld, $75 million
13. Britney Spears, $64 million
14. Lady Gaga, $62 million

16. Sandra Bullock, $56 million
17. Ellen DeGeneres, $55 million
18. Miley Cyrus, $48 million

Black Eyed Peas perform during the Super Bowl XLV halftime show
Photo: Getty Images
The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.
Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash “I Gotta Feeling,” descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in “Tron”-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.
When the speaker-busting bass of “Boom Boom Pow” dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N’ Roses rose from below the stage for a “Sweet Child O’ Mine” duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into “Pump It” and blue lights splashed across the production.
Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas’ second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint “OMG.” Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his “OMG” video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.
A spray of pyro ushered in the collective’s breakout 2003 hit “Where Is the Love?” as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word “Love” in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, “Obama, let’s get these educated.”
Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010′s “The Time (Dirty Bit),” as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.
The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of “I Gotta Feeling,” as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.
Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, “Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I’m not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey.”
And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. “That was so freakin sick,” he wrote. “Wow…!!!”

Collaborators Laurieann Gibson and Fernando Garibay discuss new clip.

Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” video is a dark sci-fi thriller about birthing a new race of non-judgmental people. Gaga’s Little Monsters have been consuming the Nick Knight-directed, Laurieann Gibson and Haus co-created clip at epic proportions.
The visual spectacle is part fashion shoot, part alien horror flick, and all Gaga. MTV News rounded up some of Mother Monster’s collaborators — her choreographer (Gibson) and Born This Way musical director Fernando Garibay — to talk about the meaning behind the visuals.
“This is the first statement and the opening statement of this Born This Way album,” Garibay explained.
“When she played it for me, it took me a while to find out the visual interpretation that I could give back to her. And so I woke up one night and I got it, and I said, ‘I got it: We have to birth a new race,’ ” Gibson recalled. “From the gate, Gaga was like, ‘I want Nick Knight for this video. I want a visual.’ She was always birthing something visual in her head, and Nick Knight is just, well, he’s prolific but he’s so genius.”
The video, complete with its messages about acceptance and love, fit with the theme of the song. “To write, particularly a dance record, I think dance records are the most hardest songs to write,” Garibay explained. “But to write a statement within a hit record, I think is the holy grail, and I think she was able to do it this time.”
Gibson recalls having to work with Gaga on the dancing in the video. “It took two days, and when Gaga was making the album, she wanted it to be in New York. We shot the video in Brooklyn over two days. We had to hide the location,” she said. “To get her to be a better dancer, it’s just a process of getting it out of her and getting her confident. So I just told the story of the record. There’s lots of pushing and birthing. There’s lots of punching the adversity. It’s very symbolic.”
“We were just blown away, of course,” Garibay said of seeing the video be made from beginning to end. “It’s amazing. Her talent, I mean, she’s so talented, but in combining the imagery, the dance and how it’s expressed with the song is truly amazing … It’s of cultural relevance, and hopefully helps people that are an outcast, bullied. Hopefully makes people aware that it’s OK to be yourself.”
Gibson admitted there was one main goal with this video: “It was about pushing the bar of what a music video should be and can be,” she said. “It’s a different time; it’s a different era; there are no limits. It is a viral message. I think that there’s something in there for everyone, and that’s what’s so amazing about the video and so specific about the message.”

Judge laments that ‘a lot of kids [went] home who deserved to be there.’

“American Idol” season 10 top 13 at the top 13 after-party
Photo: FOX
The first elimination show of the new season of “American Idol” has come and gone in history-making fashion. Host Ryan Seacrest announced on the show Thursday (Mar 3) that around 40 million votes were cast, narrowing the field of 24 hopefuls to 10 contestants, the biggest cuts in the show’s history. Three more wild card contestants sang for their lives and were later added by judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson to make a top 13.
When MTV News caught up with the involved parties at Fox’s afterparty to celebrate the “Idol” finalists, there were feelings of relief, joy and, for one judge, discomfort.
“Ugh. It was awful!” Lopez said of the deliberation that went on between the judges to select the three wild cards at the end of the show. “It was so tough. It was so hard, even up until the very last second. It was like, wait a minute, we really didn’t know who to choose at the last minute. It could have gone any way. Even when we did it, when we announced it, we were like, ‘Did we do the right thing?’ I don’t know.”
Lopez went on to say that there was not really a right or wrong with so many talented contestants in the mix this year. “[We] were going to send somebody home that maybe deserved to be there,” she said. “Probably a lot of kids [went] home who deserved to be there.”
Stefano Langone snagged one of the lucky three wild card spots with his rendition of Smokie Norful’s “I Need You Now,” a decision he said he made for several reasons.
“I knew if it got to the point where I had to sing for the wild card, that I’d be singing for my life,” Langone explained. “I needed a song that I’d done prior to this point that was the absolute perfect song for my voice, to show my soul, everything that I have, everything I could bring to the table as a musician.”
Despite the anxiety involved in singing for his life, Langone said it was a great experience. “I had to work for that spot. I had to work to where I wanted to be, and I feel really blessed to have gotten that. I’m so thankful and honored and blessed. It’s a dream.”
Fellow wild-card winner Naima Adedapo felt the same way about her song choice, Donny Hathaway’s “For All We Know.”
“It really talks about what I wanted to talk about,” she said. “That is, ‘Love me tonight. I need you to put me through tonight. Let me show you who I am.’ ”
Adedapo added that hearing her name called as part of the top 13 had her almost floating on air.
“Words can’t really express it, but it’s like a high,” she said. “It’s like being elevated somewhere. I feel like I wasn’t even on earth anymore, I just kind of was happy and in the moment. I felt like I had an opportunity to really show them how much I really want it.”

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like ‘Arthur’, ‘Annie’ and ’21 Jump Street.’
By Terri Schwartz

Photo: Jemal Countess/Getty Images
What do Willow Smith and Beyoncé have in common with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Kenny Wormald? They’re all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike.
On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic “A Star Is Born” (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake “Annie” (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair.
In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby,” with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the ’80s Johnny Depp-starring television series “21 Jump Street” to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film’s March 16, 2012, release date.
And let’s not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned “Footloose” remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life.
Then there’s “Arthur,” the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte.
Two recently announced remakes are “Lethal Weapon” and “The Wizard of Oz,” which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz.
Just this past year, films from “Clash of the Titans” to “The Karate Kid” to “A Nightmare on Elm Street” were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. “Alice in Wonderland” and “Clash of the Titans” went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while “Piranha 3D” and “The A-Team” also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes.

Formichetti is Gaga’s stylist, and Gaga has been acting as musical director for Mugler’s fashion shows. On Wednesday, Formichetti will debut his women’s wear collection in Paris, and Gaga will debut a new song. She also revealed on Twitter she will be walking in the show.
“I’m making my debut as a runway model, walking in the MUGLER PARIS FASHIONSHOW 3/2,” she shared, revealing what song she was set to debut at the show. “I directed the show music, previewing Government Hooker.” For those hoping to catch the appearance and the song, the show will stream live at 3 p.m. ET.
In January, Gaga previewed another one of her Born This Way tracks, “Scheiße,” during Mugler’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week show.
“Nicola hummed it to me and tried singing it to me. It was hilarious,” Mariano Vivanco, who directed a short film that included the remix, told MTV News about the album version of the song. “And described it to me in a really articulate way. He said, ‘It’s techno meets Whitney Houston, in a really good way.’ ”
As for this latest track, Gaga has already teased fans with what they will hear on the song. When Gaga called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show earlier this month, she described it is “one of my favorites” and said it “has more of a hip-hop beat.”
“We double-timed the beat. It’s a super fast, really hard record, and the lyrics are really filthy,” she added. “It’s also empowering, but more in the direction of sexual female empowerment.”
Are you excited for the latest Gaga track? Let us know in the comments!

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like ‘Arthur’, ‘Annie’ and ’21 Jump Street.’

It’s a rare Dave Chappelle sighting! The elusive comedian was spotted kicking back with wife Elaine and their daughter Sonal at a Starbucks in Santa Monica, Calif. on Thursday (February 3).
The couple also have two sons, Sulayman and Ibrahim, who weren’t with them on this outing. Maybe they prefer Peet’s.

Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez
Photo: x17online.com
For many celebrities, their relationship with the prying lens of the paparazzi has always been love/hate. Some bask in the attention and others complain of being hounded relentlessly by hungry photographers. This week, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez were caught up in a paparazzi kerfuffle while celebrating the Biebs’ 17th birthday in Los Angeles.
After giving the paps the finger during the encounter, Bieber later apologized via Twitter. But he’s only the latest in a long history of celebrity/celebrity-photographer encounters: Everyone from Lily Allen to Coldplay’s Chris Martin to Sean Penn (the king of paparazzi knockdowns) has had heated moments with the paps. Here, we look back at some of the more memorable run-ins.
Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz
Like Bieber and Gomez, then-couple Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz were involved in a scuffle with the paps in 2006. Diaz claimed a photographer tried to run her over, while the photographer claimed the actors had trapped him as he was trying to get away.
Björk in Bangkok
Björk lashed out a photographer at Bangkok airport in 1996, attacking a female photog who was trying to take pictures of her as she made her way through the airport. Things quickly got physical. The singer also attacked a paparazzo in 2008 in New Zealand, also at an airport, ripping his shirt.
Britney Spears and an Umbrella
During a more trying time in Britney Spears’ life, the singer, who had recently shaved her head, attacked a paparazzo’s SUV as a pack of photographers looked on. Using an umbrella to carry out the attack, it was believed that Britney was feeling the pressure of the prying paparazzi lens when she wailed on that car in 2007.
Russell Brand and Katy Perry
In 2010, Russell Brand attacked several paparazzi while he and his soon-to-be-wife Katy Perry made their way through LAX. Brand was convinced the photogs were tying to sneak inappropriate pics of Perry.
Kanye West and the Bodyguard
Kanye also had a moment with paps at an airport. West and his bodyguard Don Crowley got into a physical altercation with a photographer in 2008 at LAX. Both he and Crowley were accused of ruining camera equipment after a photog attempted to take the rapper’s photo.

Experts weigh in on the top 12 women and their chances of making it through to the finals.

Thursday night is when some “American Idol” dreams will come true, and a dozen or more will be crushed and sprinkled all across the seizure-inducing new IdolDome stage. But before all that carnage and celebration, we once again turned to some of our “Idol” experts to make some predictions about this season’s front-runners after the top 12 women did their thing on Wednesday night.
Because he just can’t get enough of all things “Idol,” we turned to MTV News’ resident expert Jim Cantiello for his take on which ladies soared and which ones crashed and burned. Despite a few serious stinkers, JC said he continues to be shocked by the caliber of vocalists on the show this season. “You believe that these were the finest singers they found while on the road,” he said, noting two “atom-bomb-sized surprises” on Wednesday night.
His first revelation was former housekeeper Lauren Turner, whose choice of Etta James’ “Seven Day Fool” he deemed perfect and full of attitude. “[She] stood out from the pack with her gravelly blues voice and in-your-face performance style,” he said. The other big surprise was show-closer Pia Toscano, the raven-haired beauty who sang the Pretenders’ “I’ll Stand by You,” which he said, “dug deep and showed off her pitch-perfect pipes. Her range was sick, she had confidence, she effortlessly hit some major power notes. America stood up and noticed, as did the judges, who gave her the first official standing ovation of season 10.”
If he had to pick a stand-out front-runner, though, at this point, Cantiello is still going with 16-year-old sassafras Lauren Alaina. “[It's her] race to lose,” he said. “She’s everything ‘Idol’ is looking for. [She] got up onstage and looked like she could have commanded a live audience 10 times bigger without flinching. She has stage presence, a powerful voice, and she has a unique ability to live somewhere in between R&B, pop and country.”
And while he thought the Carrie Underwood/Kelly Clarkson comparisons from Randy Jackson were not off the mark, Cantiello wondered if Alaina’s need to always be the center of attention might start grating on voters’ nerves? As for the other 16-year-old, Jim said Thia Megia has great pitch and a large fanbase, but he just can’t “picture her at the Nokia, covered in confetti. Unless she steps up her personality.”
A great measure of how polarizing “Idol” contestants can be is the list of hot prospects submitted by Top Idol blog founder Melinda Green. One of her favorite performances was from this year’s obligatory oddball, Rachel Zevita. Though the judges thought Zevita blew it with her jazzy, off key take on Fiona Apple’s “Criminal,” Green loved it. “I really hope we see more of her. Alas, I think the judges would prefer sending through Ashthon Jones,” Green said of the Nashville native with the giant, blow-out hairdo whose sultry cover of Monica’s “Love All Over Me” earned raves. Green wasn’t sipping the “Idol” juice, though. “Every performance I’ve seen of this girl has been the same tired R&B diva wannabe shtick we’re treated to every season,” she said.
She also liked Naima Adedapo, but is looking for more personality from the Erykah Badu-like singer and clothing designer. Lamenting how many of Wednesday night’s singers opted for tunes we’ve heard a dozen times in past seasons, Green said Karen Rodriguez made it interesting by singing half of Mariah Carey’s “Hero” in Spanish, but wondered if it was a bit too obvious pandering to judge Jennifer Lopez.
Green agreed with Cantiello that Alaina might start to strike some viewers as a “precocious coquette as taught by her stage mother” and said despite her “perfect tone,” Thia Megia may not have the emotional maturity to connect with the songs she’s singing. “With this year’s emphasis on youth and the show’s clear aim of getting a viable female winner, we’ll be forced to see more of both Thia and Lauren Alaina,” she lamented.
Bottom line, Green agreed that Toscano can go far and just needs to show more personality and that Turner has the goods that could take her deep into the competition. “She’s got the kind of voice I love,” she said, agreeing with Randy Jackson’s description of Turner as a mix of Amy Winehouse and Florence Welch. “If ‘American Idol’ wants current, they best do everything they can to keep Lauren Turner around. She’s the real deal, no theatrics, just raw talent.”

Jennifer Lopez on the set of her video for “On The Floor”

Jennifer Lopez plays a feisty club diva in her video for “On the Floor,” set to make its debut Thursday night (March 3) during “American Idol.” The song, a club banger produced by RedOne, is a melting pot of house music and global music, and the video is a dark, sexy look at club culture.
“I play one character where she kind of runs this party, acts like she’s kind of bored with it, but at the same time is really loving it and loves this underground party dance culture,” Lopez told MTV News on the set. “So I got to be wild and crazy, and at the same time I got to be sexy and sweet too.”
In the video, J.Lo wears a big beehive bun, gold gladiator heels and a gold gown with Gaga-esque detailing in its high collar and leaves. It also stars RedOne and Pitbull, who raps on the track. The other men who worked with J.Lo on the video, director Taj and choreographer Frank Gatson Jr., wanted it to reflect Lopez’s background as a dancer.
“Originality, being you. This song is about being who you want,” Taj explained. “It’s about letting loose. There’s no explanation. This is this underground video, this underground party.”
Gatson added that the video will give fans and wallflowers an inside peek at the best dance party in town. “I kind of get the feeling that she wants us to be in the club after 2 a.m. in L.A.,” he explained.
“That’s so amazing. [It's like] everybody had some watermelon and the watermelon made them high, it gave them a little buzz — but a good buzz, a real magical buzz, a dance buzz, a buzz that makes you feel like fried chicken, so she just wants everybody to have a good old time.”
J.Lo hasn’t been shy about her love for the track. She said recording it was an homage to her days as a professional dancer. “The minute RedOne played it for me, I made him play it 20 times in a row, and I just sat there at the board and I kept listening to it and listening to it,” Lopez said. “Because I really feel like, emotionally, I connected to it, but also because of how much I love to dance and how much that’s always been such a big part of who I am since I started. Since I was a little girl, I just totally connected with the idea of getting out there.”

Femme Fatale‘s second single was penned by Ke$ha.

Britney Spears’ new single, “Till the World Ends,” sounds poised to be a club smash. The Ke$ha-written, Dr. Luke/Max Martin-produced track was posted by Perez Hilton on Thursday afternoon (March 3), after speculation earlier in the day that the song would hit radio next week.
“Till the World Ends” is a swirling, “beat the beat” track, ready for late nights spent “dancing till the world ends” as she sings on the fast-paced party jam. “This kitten got your tongue tied in knots I see/ Spit it out ’cause I’m dying for company,” a confident Spears purrs.
As the song slows for a moment — during a break before she moves her way to the chorus — she sings, “I can’t take it take it take no more/ Never felt like felt like this before/ Come on get me get me on the floor/ DJ, what you what you waiting for?” she teases.
The beat chugs in the background as synths play with Spears’ sex-kitten delivery of lines like “Watch me move/ When I lose, when I lose it hard/ Get you off with a touch/ Dancing in the dark.
“See the sunlight/ We ain’t stopping/ Keep on dancing till the world ends/ If you feel it/ Let it happen/ Keep on dancing till the world ends,” she sings as the song breaks down, fading out for a brief moment (revealing her signature breathiness), and then coming back in as she repeats those final lines again to close the song.
Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that it is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. “That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world,” she said. “You know, when you go out, and you’re having an amazing, magical night and you don’t want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends.”
“Till the World Ends” is the second single from Femme Fatale, set to drop March 29. Its lead single, “Hold It Against Me,” was an equally club-friendly jam by Luke and Martin, who are overseeing production on the album.

When boxing pro and model Laila Ali dropped in to chat with the ladies of the CBS daytime show, The Talk, on Wednesday (March 2), we’re sure that the co-hosts imagined their surprise baby shower for the expectant mom to go a little differently. After being presented with a tiny pair of pink boxing gloves and a matching robe that read “The Cutest of All Time,” Laila’s response to the gifts made for a slightly awkward moment.
“She can look at them,” Ali said with a smile.

After Rodney Jerkins discusses ‘out-of-the-box’ track, a rep for Barker confirms collabo to MTV News.
By James Montgomery

In a recent interview with MTV News, producer Rodney Jerkins said that, on her upcoming Femme Fatale album, Britney Spears got “hands-on,” supplying him with “a lot of ideas” and helping shape the energetic sound of the project.
“She’s great. She gets it,” Jerkins said. “She is a top-notch veteran pro at this now.”
So it should probably come as no surprise that, somewhere along the line, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker came to be involved in recording the album — because, while we’re not sure if bringing him onboard was Britney’s idea, he is most certainly the kind who can bring the energy.
And, as Jerkins said in a recent sit-down with Headline News’ “Showbiz Tonight,” the experience of working with Spears and Barker was a new one for everyone involved.
“I’m really excited. … I did two songs on her album, and one of the songs I did, I brought in Travis Barker, and it’s got this rock feel which is out of the box, out of my norm, and I think it’s out of her norm as well,” Jerkins said. “We had a great time making this record.”
Jerkins didn’t elaborate on much else about the Barker song or Britney’s album, saying only that the project is “classic Britney spears, uptempo heavy, of course. It’s new and different.”
A spokesperson for Barker confirmed to MTV News that the collaboration happened “about a month ago” but, much like Jerkins, wouldn’t reveal any additional details of the song. Spears’ Femme Fatale is due March 29.
What do you think of Britney Spears’ new music? Let us know in the comments!

Singer teases his new project by pointing to past hits like ‘Yeah!’ and ‘OMG.’
By James Montgomery
With the success of songs like “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love,” “Hot Tottie” and “OMG,” Usher had himself a fairly massive 2010. But rather than rest on his laurels, he’s looking to build on his big year, not with an album, but with a “movement.”
It’s something he’s calling “Rev Pop” — or, simply, “Rev” — and though he’s already teased his idea in a video with David Guetta (Akon is also involved), he has yet to speak in full about it. So when MTV News caught up with Ush before the 53rd annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the (Belvedere) RED launch party, we asked him about his next musical endeavor. And though he didn’t reveal much, he did let it be known that “Rev” isn’t exactly something new. In fact, he’s been doing it for a while now.
“I’ll give it to you this way: At a later date, I’ll tell you more about Rev Pop, but if I were to give you a flash: I’ve done it before, I did it with ‘Yeah!’ ” he said, “taking a cultural experience, and also worldwide recognition of a feeling, and putting the soul in the middle of it. Not allowing it to shift heavily to R&B genre, or pop. I did it again with ‘OMG,’ once again putting the soul in the middle of it, which was an electric-pop experience, with the soul.
“It’s bringing those elements together to tell a story, that was born here,” he said, gesturing toward his heart, “And that’s what Rev Pop is. There’s more, I mean, I could really elaborate, but that’s just what I’m going to tell you right now. ‘Rev’ is what it’s called … the movement is called Rev.”
Usher wouldn’t say just when his fans would be getting their first taste of Rev, but whenever they do, it sounds like they’re going to be impressed … if not a little shocked.
“Stay alive,” he smiled, “Because you’re definitely going to be in for a surprise.”

‘I think it’s the best album I have ever made,’ Spears tells V magazine.
By Jocelyn Vena

Britney Spears’ issue of V magazine is set to officially drop on Thursday, but a sneak peek of the issue, which features the singer donning couture in photos shot by Mario Testino, found its way online in advance. In the interview with the magazine, Spears opens up about her new album, her love of dance music and her rise to fame.
“I don’t think I thought about ‘fame’ when I was a child,” she told the fashion mag. “I knew I wanted to perform and I knew I wanted to be on stage, but I don’t think I ever thought about fame or what comes with being famous.” When asked if she was destined to be famous, she jokes, “If not, then God definitely has a strange sense of humor.”
The singer admits that she has a certain mantra when it comes to dealing with both the good and the bad that come with being a celebrity. “I have learned to always stay true to myself and never let what other people say about me change who I am,” she explained. “It’s a really important lesson that took me a long time to learn.”
Spears is also staying true to her musical roots on her new album, out March 29, which she says embraces who she is in her life now. “I think Femme Fatale speaks for itself,” she said. “I worked really hard on it and spent almost two years recording it. I think it’s the best album I have ever made. There’s nothing to say. I’ll let the music speak for itself. … It’s definitely my edgiest and most mature sound yet.
“It’s a little bit of both [an evolution and a revolution],” she continued. “There are songs on this album that don’t sound like anything else and are completely revolutionary, but I also believe this album expresses where I am today as a woman and is an evolution of who I am.”

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber arrive at the <i>Vanity Fair</i> Oscar party

While they’ve never spoken publicly about dating one another, Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez proudly had their relationship on display when they hit up the famous Vanity Fair Oscar party right after the 83rd Academy Awards telecast wrapped.
The pair didn’t do press on the red carpet, but they looked relaxed as they posed together for pictures. Bieber’s arm was around Gomez’s waist as they smiled for photos. She was wearing a red Grecian-style gown. Bieber was in an all-black tuxedo with a red pocket square, matching his date for the night. They took photos as a pair, but also individually. Inside the party, Bieber and Gomez posed for pictures with fellow teen star Hailee Steinfeld, held hands and looked at each other’s phones while they texted inside the fete.
The glamorous party was attended by some of Hollywood’s biggest names, including Gwyneth Paltrow, besties Taylor Swift and Emma Stone, couples like Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake, as well as Oscar winner Natalie Portman and her beau, Benjamin Millepied. Among the other A-listers there were Jamie Foxx, Jake Gyllenhaal, 50 Cent, Reese Witherspoon, Michelle Williams and Jennifer Hudson, to name a few.
“Good luck to my friend Hailee Steinfeld tonight on the #oscars. young people going for theirs! also want Christian Bale to win. #TheFighter,” Bieber tweeted early on Sunday, before adding this message about his fame: “im never gonna change … i will always remember … i will always be that kid from Stratford … I will always be grateful.”
For her part, Gomez simply tweeted, “Vanity Fair fun!” She included a photo of herself with Bieber, Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, and his date.

Beyoncé never really seems to slow down, so when the time came to choose a director for her concert special DVD “I Am … World Tour,” the singer decided to take on those duties too. It’s an accomplishment the singer jokes may have sparked those pregnancy rumors.
“I was pregnant with this DVD, yes!” she joked to MTV News.
The DVD hits stores on November 30, but fans can catch the 90-minute “I Am … World Tour” TV special when it airs on ABC Thanksgiving night at 9:30 p.m. ET. Beyoncé opened up about what it was like to sit in the director’s chair.
“Well, I’ve done some co-directing for music videos [but] this was definitely a big step for me, and I’m so thrilled,” she said at the New York City screening for the flick.
Beyoncé said she was completely hands-on, deciding which moments made the final cut and which ones wound up on the cutting-room floor. “It was hard work,” she said. “I learned so much. I have a new respect for directors and I think I would like to do more of it.”
Her parents, Mathew and Tina Knowles, who also attended the screening over the weekend, said the film gives B the recognition she deserves after years of collaborating on many of her own videos.
“I’m really excited about this because Beyoncé has been making little short films and really helping to direct her videos,” Tina told us. “So it’s nice that she’ll get credit for doing something that she really loves doing and that she’s very talented at.”
Dad Mathew recalled all of the effort his superstar daughter put into the special. “I’m so proud,” he said. “I had an opportunity [to see the film], I’ve been to Houston with a screening; I’ve been to Bentonville, [Arkansas], with a screening, and to see the excitement from the audience, what an incredible job Beyoncé did as a director in the editing, I’m just so proud. Hopefully, all the fans go out and get the DVD and soundtrack and look at that ABC special coming on Thanksgiving.”

‘He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,’ producer/DJ tells MTV News of his collaborator.

It’s no secret that 2010 was a pivotal year for electronic dance music here in the States. With deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia becoming household names, the genre’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down. Using a conduit of collaboration, artists such as deadmau5 (a.k.a. Joel Zimmerman) have paired up with various underground acts to further the rapid expansion of the genre.
Perhaps one of the most notable movers and shakers of the year is now-Grammy-Award-nominated producer and DJ Wolfgang Gartner, who recently sat down to chat with MTV News about deadmau5 and dance music’s rise to the top.
“He has a major role in the younger generation to this music,” Gartner says, “but there have been certain artists that have been instrumental in helping it cross over and reach the mainstream — which I think is a good thing. I think rap artists using dance beats is a great thing. I think it just brings more people towards this music that we all love.”
Thanks to several key moments, such as deadmau5 taking the helm as house DJ (well, technically “House Artist”) for the 2010 VMAs, dance music has been thrown into the forefront of America’s youth, a key demographic for any genre.
“Everybody knows who he is now and he’s kind of exposing the masses to dance music. These little five-, six- and seven-year-old kids latch on to this ‘mau5head’ logo — they get into the music and he’s bringing this tiny young generation into this music that probably wouldn’t be exposed to it.”
Gartner certainly doesn’t mind the exposure either. Unless you were living under a rock for the past six months, you probably heard one of this past summer’s hottest anthems, “Animal Rights,” a collaborative effort brought forth by deadmau5 and Gartner.
“It was interesting because I kind of had a preconceived notion about how he would be to work [with],” said Gartner. “I think our sounds are really similar, so I figured he would work in a similar way to me, but the way that he writes music is actually completely different to me. But he achieves kind of the same sound through a completely different process.”
Recorded in deadmau5′s favorite Los Angeles studio — that would be rocker Tommy Lee’s House — “Animal Rights” is a thumping progressive house anthem that melds Wolfgang’s unmistakable harmonics and funk riffs with the driving bass line and wobbly synths that make deadmau5 one of the unique forces in the dance music world.
“[Deadmau5] writes these rich complex chord progressions and he does it by drawing these little bars on a grid, which is just amazing that you can do that and get that result,” Gartner goes on to say. “It just proves you don’t have to be able to play keyboards to write amazing music.”
The two sound pioneers never cease to stop pushing the limits on what they are able to produce. Using drastically difference production approaches, deadmau5 and Gartner had the ability to play off each other’s strengths while recording the track.
“I’d say the biggest thing is that I play everything in on a keyboard, like even my drums,” says Gartner. “I play everything in live and he draws it in with notes on a mouse, which blew me away because his music is very musical.”
What do you think 2011 will hold for deadmau5 and Gartner? Let us know in the comments below!

‘It looked worse than it actually was,’ the ‘OMG’ singer laughs about accidental blow during concert serenade.

Usher’s club-rattling jam “OMG” may “kill it every night” according to tourmate Miguel, but when the Atlanta crooner hit Madison Square Garden earlier this week, he was almost taken out by a clumsy fan.
When the singer touched down in New York on Monday, he indulged a super amped fan’s fantasy by pulling her onstage for an intimate flirty serenade of “Trading Places.” As Usher and the concertgoer got cozy on a recliner, she swiveled around to face the crooner — knocking him squarely in his mug with her foot. She began apologizing profusely as Usher briefly paused to collect himself. But the superstar took the strike in stride, quipping, “We play rough in the bed. We kick each other in the face and all type of good stuff.”
Although Usher brushed off the blow, the moment did make an impression on him.
“In all my years, this is one of the most interesting experiences. I got a kick out of it!” he told Us Weekly. The singer assured fans that the knock wasn’t that bad. “It looked worse than it actually was. My audience and I got a good laugh.”
As for the fan, the “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” star maintained everything is all good on that front too. “Wherever you are baby, don’t feel bad,” Usher said. “No hard feelings.”
As Miguel has noted, Usher isn’t one dwell on drama, whether it’s cranking out another hit album or weathering an unexpected hit from a fan.
“He’s such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination,” Miguel recently told MTV News. “I was there throughout this album, so I’ve seen the adversity that he’s had to overcome perception-wise.”
What do you think of Usher’s response to getting knocked in the head by a fan? Tell us in the comments!

Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, ‘Never Say Never’ star said in 2009.

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.
In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.
“My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I’d never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people,” he recalled.
“And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, ‘Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?’ The politest possible way he could say no, he did. … I took the hint. I didn’t get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session.”
But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. “He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, ‘I should have let this kid sing,’ and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me.”
As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.
“As far as Usher being my mentor, he’s definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important,” he explained.
“There’s a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life.”
On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

Gaga shouts out Liza Minnelli, Marisa Tomei and a gay unicorn in the second of two hometown shows.

NEW YORK — “Tonight, in the town where the gays birthed me, you can be free!” Lady Gaga announced at her Monster Ball show Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.
On this second night in her hometown, Lady Gaga was being filmed by HBO for her concert special that will air in early May. And though it wasn’t her first time playing MSG, she still felt the significance of headlining the venue. “I used to live 20 blocks from here, so I saw all those names go up on the marquis, and I always wanted to see my name up in those lights.
“You made me brave, little monsters,” she informed her squealing fans of all ages, “and New York made me brave.”
Liza Minnelli and Marisa Tomei were both in the audience, and Gaga asked for her monsters to cheer on the two women, who she said greatly influenced her.
“I don’t lip-synch,” Gaga reminded the audience, who was already quite aware of that impressive fact, considering all of the heavy dancing mixed with extended high notes. “I’m not going to waste your time watching some bitch lip-synch her way to an HBO special, especially not with Liza watching.” Gaga recently said in an interview that she would want Marisa Tomei, above anyone else, to play her in a movie.
While performing all of her hits from The Fame and The Fame Monster, Gaga took plenty of time to speak to the crowd directly, and her witty banter had the room laughing every moment they weren’t cheering their lungs out.
Someone in the audience held up a bright purple unicorn stuffed animal, and Gaga caught sight of it when flashing her disco stick flashlight around the crowd. “That is the most fabulous gay unicorn I have ever seen,” she remarked, as straight-faced as ever. “The only thing better than a unicorn is a gay unicorn.”
The evening flowed seamlessly from the moment Gaga took the stage with her dark pop tune “Dance in the Dark,” disguising her dozen or so costume changes with dazzling art videos. The videos often depicted Gaga in a pose or in extreme slow motion, creating the sense of a moving portrait, surrounded by driving club dance beats. Some of the images included tears of blood, neon-green vomit, gothic clothing and bondage attire. The show itself could be an installment at a high-end gallery.
Gaga’s incessant devotion to LGBT rights was in full effect during her two hours on stage. She called a fan in the audience, Jimmy DiPasquale, who had made a generous donation to her LGBT youth fund, to thank him personally. At the end of “Alejandro,” while the beat continued to thump, two of her male backup dancers took the stage and made out passionately as the curtain came down.
As Gaga drove the night toward her two encores of “Bad Romance” and new single “Born This Way,” she looked on the verge of tears and announced, “This is the last of five sold-out shows here, but I hope this song and this record bring us back here next year.”

‘I probably won’t get on this album, but hopefully the next one,’ singer/songwriter Sia says of song she pitched for Beyonce’s new album.

As Britney Spears and Lady Gaga gear up to release new albums, there’s another pop heavyweight who may offer them some friendly competition: Beyoncé. Details surrounding the singer’s next album remain scarce, but according to a few of the project’s collaborators, Bey is almost finished recording the follow-up to 2008′s I Am … Sasha Fierce and has managed to hit the studio with an extensive list of producers.
After gushing about her high hopes for working with Beyoncé, Australian songstress Sia revealed that she told B’s behind-the-scenes team that she wanted to lend a creative hand for the new album. “So I just said to all the producers, writers, everyone, help me make this happen, and then Diplo e-mailed me and said, ‘where are you in the world right now? would you be interested in flying to New York? I’m writing with Beyoncé,’ and I was like, ‘Yesss!’ ” the singer told MTV Australia.
Despite Diplo’s offer, Sia said she was unable to fly out because of schedule conflicts, but is in the process of pitching songs to Beyoncé. When asked if her submissions were for Beyoncé’s forthcoming LP, Sia said, “Well, there’s only one song left for this album, so I probably won’t get on this album, but hopefully the next one. That’s my dream, that’s my goal.”
Sia isn’t the only collaborator that has suggested Beyoncé is close to wrapping up studio sessions for the project. Sleigh Bells have confirmed working with the singer, but are weary on whether their work with the songstress will make the final cut. Speaking with NME.com, guitarist Derek Miller admitted, “I actually have no idea if the collaboration will ever be released.”
While Miller remained tight-lipped on details regarding the song (or songs?), the Sleigh Bells bandmate confessed that the collabo is just one of her many musical partnerships, saying, “Beyoncé works with whoever she wants to work with, probably 30 or 40 producers. It’s a totally different world from what I’m used to. So for me, it’s just exciting to hear something that I worked on but I can’t really say any more than that.”
Sia and the Sleigh Bells join a long list of other collaborators who have been tapped to work on Beyoncé’s new album, including Ne-Yo, S1, Jim Jonsin, Sean “The Pen” Garrett, The-Dream and Tricky Stewart.
Who do you want to see Beyoncé collaborate with on her new album? Share your suggestions in the comments.

While many Beliebers are gushing over his ‘sexy,’ ‘older’ cut, others tell MTV News they miss his signature ‘swoop.’

This week Justin Bieber made headlines thanks to a new haircut. The Biebs had his famous swooping bangs cut into a shorter, cropped look, and he told talk-show host Ellen DeGeneres he doesn’t “really care” what people have to say about his ‘do.
But his fans have been weighing in on the new hairstyle anyway, and many of them approve of the haircut.
“I really like it and it actually makes him look older!!!! And for all u down there hating on Bieber well if it was Angelina Jolie I’m sure you’d have something to say so don’t hate ’cause he’s sexy and he ain’t even legal yet,” Amanda wrote on MTV.com.
Lilia added, “AAh, he looks better with the new hair! Suits him!”
Beliebers have been debating the star’s latest look since he debuted it earlier this week. Coote noted on our site that Bieber is much more than a head of hair. “I think he [looks] sexy … i don’t love him for his hair… i love him because he is sweet, cute and perfect,” Coote wrote.
MTV News also took to the streets of New York City to see whether people preferred the “Never Say Never” star’s old look or the new one.
“I like it, I think it looks good on him,” Catherine said of Bieber’s longtime haircut. She added about the brand-new cut: “I like it better than the other one, but I think that a lot of his fans liked the [old] one. … Everyone loves him for his hair and now he doesn’t have it anymore.”
Meanwhile, Tiffany loved the original but was blown away by the new version. “I think it’s very Bieberish, I like that long swoop. It definitely works for him,” Tiffany said before we showed her the updated look. “Oh my god! It’s such a transformation! I just love it! He looks so much older!”
“It’s just beautiful,” Christina explained of the old ‘do. “I liked him with his longer hair better. That’s just who he was discovered as.”
“He looks a little geeky,” Sofia said of his famous original hairdo. “It’s much better,” she said of the cropped cut. “He doesn’t look like my brother anymore. He looks five years older. He’s so cute.”
Which do you prefer: Bieber’s long locks or his cropped cut? Tell us in the comments!

Really, how else could we honor ‘He Doesn’t Own a Shirt’?

Kirk Douglas onstage at Sunday’s Academy Awards
Photo: Michael Caulfield/WireImage
The stage has gone quiet at the Kodak Theatre. The celebs have all gone home. Everyone is heavy-lidded and hazily recollecting the winners and losers at the 83rd Academy Awards on Sunday. Along those lines, it’s time for MTV News to fight off the sleepiness, down some caffeine and dole out some Oscar superlatives.
Best Attempt to Make the Show Run Long:
Kirk Douglas‘ assigned task was to hand out the Best Supporting Actress, but when the 94-year-old actor finally reached the microphone, he was in no hurry to cede the spotlight. Douglas joked with James Franco, flirted with Anne Hathaway, and made random references to laughing Australians and austere Brits. It was touching and awkward and utterly memorable. And it felt like it lasted 15 minutes.
Most Surprisingly Great Speech:
This one is a tie between Christian Bale (Supporting Actor) and “King’s Speech” writer David Seidler (Original Screenplay). Bale surprised even himself when he fought off tears while thanking his wife and daughter. Seidler, meanwhile, happily acknowledged being the oldest person ever to win Original Screenplay; not only is he a proud late-bloomer, he’s a shining and articulate example of the ways in which a person can overcome a stutter.
Strangest Standing Ovation:
The audience stood and applauded for everyone from Douglas to Eli Wallach. Hollywood legends, all. But everyone in the Kodak also got to their feet for Billy Crystal. Sure, he’s been a damn fine Oscar host in years past, and who doesn’t love “When Harry Met Sally…,” but a standing O for Crystal just seemed weird.
Most Welcome Wins
While Christopher Nolan got screwed out of a directing nomination, he had to be one of the happiest cats at the show: “Inception” tied “The King’s Speech” for most wins with four, including Visual Effects and Cinematography.
Most Gratuitous Use of Taylor Lautner’s Abs:
Hey, if you can’t get any of the “Twilight” cast to show up to the Oscars, why not whip up a viral-video-ready mash-up? The Auto-Tuned faux musical number, “He Doesn’t Own a Shirt,” was not only a chance to see Robert Pattinson “sing,” but it gave the Academy’s millions of viewers an opportunity to gawk at Lautner’s midsection.
Most Shameless Use of Prepared Text: There’s nothing wrong with pulling out a scrap of paper while up on stage, Oscar in hand. Imagine your nerves? Yet after winning Costume Design for her work on “Alice in Wonderland,” Colleen Atwood — who’d won two previous Oscars — buried her head in a prepared speech and talked as if she were delivering an elementary school book report rather than a speech during Hollywood’s most glamorous night.
Performance Most in Need of Auto-Tune:
Gwyneth Paltrow has been wowing us on “Glee” and simply killed it alongside Cee Lo at the Grammys earlier this month, but we’re not gonna lie: Paltrow’s take on “Coming Home” on Sunday was not her finest live performance.
Saddest “In Memoriam” Snub: Corey Haim failed to get a posthumous mention at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, leading his buddy Corey Feldman to lament, “We have become used to not being honored by our peers in the industry.” Alas, Haim was once again snubbed, failing to make it into a video package honoring the likes of Lena Horne and Leslie Nielsen.
Stick with MTV News on Oscar night and beyond for red-carpet fashion coverage, analysis of the winners, plus interviews, photos and more from your favorite Hollywood stars!
